Charger on Wheels (COW), a Gurugram-based EV charging company, is expanding its mobile charging model to provide on-demand DC fast charging directly to electric vehicles, particularly in locations where fixed charging infrastructure can be difficult to install.
The company operates self-powered mobile DC fast-charging units that can be deployed directly at the vehicle, eliminating the need for extensive civil work, trenching or transformer upgrades associated with some permanent charging installations.
The model is designed for residential communities, commercial fleets, offices and other locations where access to dedicated charging infrastructure may be limited. By bringing the charger to where vehicles are parked, the company aims to reduce the need for EV users and fleet operators to travel to fixed charging stations.
For residential communities, the mobile approach can provide charging access without requiring dedicated charging infrastructure for every EV or major electrical upgrades to apartment complexes. For fleet operators, mobile charging can be deployed at depots and operational stops, helping integrate charging into existing vehicle schedules.
Anil Kumar, Founder and CEO, Charger on Wheels, said the company is focusing on developing a charging network around how EVs and vehicles are actually used, with charging brought to homes, offices and fleet locations rather than treating charging as a destination.
Charger on Wheels is currently operational in Gurugram, where it has more than 280 customers, and is expanding to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune. The company has technology support from Exicom Tele-Systems and collaborations with real estate developer M3M and BMW/MINI dealership Bird Automotive.
The expansion comes as India’s EV charging ecosystem continues to grow, while charging utilisation patterns highlight the importance of convenient charging options at homes, workplaces and fleet locations
