Trina Storage and AMP-lify Sign MoU for 1 GWh of Grid-Connected BESS Projects in Japan

Trina Storage, the energy storage business unit of Trinasolar, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japanese clean energy platform AMP-lify to supply approximately 1 GWh of grid-connected battery energy storage systems (BESS) for projects across Japan.

Under the agreement, Trina Storage will supply its Elementa 3 series BESS and provide technical support covering system configuration, technical consultation, delivery coordination and after-sales service through its Japan team.

The Elementa 3 features Trina Storage’s in-house 587Ah high-capacity cells and can provide up to 6.25 MWh per container for utility-scale applications. For sites with limited land or challenging transport access, the Elementa 3 Flex offers a 1.56 MWh configuration with a compact footprint and modular expansion capability.

AMP-lify develops, constructs and operates grid-connected BESS, utility-scale solar and onshore wind projects across Japan.

The collaboration is aimed at supporting the deployment of large-scale energy storage while addressing Japan-specific requirements such as narrow site access, road weight restrictions, mountainous terrain, seismic conditions, coastal environments and community noise considerations.

Japan’s energy strategy targets renewable energy to account for approximately 40–50% of electricity generation by fiscal 2040, increasing the need for energy storage to balance variable renewable generation.

The MoU strengthens Trina Storage and AMP-lify’s cooperation in developing grid-connected storage projects tailored to Japan’s local technical and operational requirements.
