Kutch Copper Plans 115 MW Renewable Energy Integration at Gujarat Refinery

Kutch Copper Limited (KCL), part of the Adani Group, plans to integrate 115 MW of renewable energy into its copper refinery operations in Mundra, Gujarat, as part of its efforts to reduce emissions and improve resource efficiency.

The initiative comes as demand for copper continues to grow, driven by renewable energy infrastructure, electric vehicles and power transmission systems.

The company currently has a copper smelting capacity of 500,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) and plans to expand it to 1 million TPA. Its sustainability initiatives also include the use of nearly 100% desalinated water and a zero-liquid-discharge approach to minimise freshwater consumption.

Kutch Copper also reports treating 99.8% of sulphur emissions through advanced environmental technologies. Additionally, the Adani Group has committed US$1.2 billion to the project, according to the company.

The planned renewable energy integration reflects the growing importance of cleaner energy and resource-efficient manufacturing in India’s metals industry. Its long-term environmental benefits will depend on implementation and measurable progress in emissions reduction.
