The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has directed all wind turbine manufacturers listed under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM-Wind) to submit their cybersecurity compliance status, along with supporting documentary evidence, by August 31, 2026.
The directive follows the July 31, 2025 amendment to the ALMM-Wind procedure, which introduced stricter cybersecurity and data-localisation requirements for wind turbine manufacturers.
Under the revised framework, OEMs are required to:
- Locate wind turbine data centres and/or servers in India, with relevant data stored and maintained domestically.
- Ensure real-time operational data is not transferred outside India.
- Exercise operational control of wind turbines exclusively from facilities located in India.
- Establish an R&D centre in India within the stipulated timeframe.
OEMs must declare whether they are fully compliant, partially compliant or non-compliant with each requirement and provide details such as server locations, control centres, manpower, equipment, safeguards against external remote control and R&D facilities.
MNRE will use the submitted information to undertake random checks and inspections, strengthening cybersecurity oversight across India’s increasingly digitalised wind-energy infrastructure.
