Hindalco Industries has commissioned India’s first greenfield Superfine Precipitated Aluminium Trihydrate (PPT ATH) manufacturing plant at its Belagavi facility in Karnataka, marking the beginning of domestic production of this high-value specialty alumina material.
The plant has an annual production capacity of 30,000 tonnes and will cater to growing demand for halogen-free flame-retardant materials used in wires and cables, polymer insulators, thermal insulation, EVs, composites and other high-performance applications.
PPT ATH helps suppress flame propagation and smoke generation without releasing halogen acid gases, making it an important material for next-generation fire-safety applications. The facility strengthens India’s domestic manufacturing capabilities and reduces reliance on imports of specialty alumina products.
Hindalco said the new facility supports the company’s focus on advanced materials while contributing to safer, more sustainable infrastructure and industrial applications.
