The Long Duration Energy Storage Council (LDES Council) and the India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the development and deployment of long-duration energy storage (LDES) solutions in India.
The collaboration comes as India integrates increasing volumes of renewable energy into its power system, creating a growing need for grid flexibility, reliability and extended-duration energy storage. LDES can store energy for longer periods and make clean power available when required.
Under the partnership, ISGF and LDES Council will work on strengthening policy and regulatory frameworks, identifying high-value LDES applications, conducting market and techno-economic assessments, and supporting demonstration as well as commercial-scale projects.
The partnership will also explore different LDES technologies, including thermal, mechanical, electrochemical and chemical storage, across applications such as renewable energy integration, grid firming and industrial decarbonisation.
