Varun Karad, Co-Founder and CEO of REnergy Dynamics, has been appointed Co-Chair of the Committee on Compressed Biogas (CBG) under the CII National Committee on Bioenergy for 2026–27.

He will serve alongside fellow Co-Chair Vivek Taneja, under the leadership of Tarun Sawhney, Chairman, CII National Committee on Bioenergy, and Roshan Tamak, Chair of the Committee on Compressed Biogas.

The committee will focus on:

  • Policy advocacy and industry-government engagement
  • Strengthening India’s CBG ecosystem
  • Addressing project viability, financing and infrastructure challenges
  • Supporting reliable feedstock aggregation and long-term offtake
  • Identifying practical measures to accelerate CBG deployment

The appointment comes as the ₹23,731-crore GOBARdhan framework moves into implementation, with measures covering assured CBG offtake, stable pricing, capital assistance, pipeline infrastructure and credit support. The scheme aims to drive nearly ten-fold growth in domestic CBG production.

Karad said the sector’s next phase will require commercially viable and financeable projects supported by reliable feedstock, infrastructure, financing, efficient execution and predictable offtake.
