NTPC Identifies Three Sites for Nuclear Power Projects
Public sector power major NTPC has identified three locations in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha for proposed nuclear power projects as part of its strategy to expand its presence in nuclear energy.
NTPC has submitted detailed feasibility reports for the three identified sites to the Atomic Energy Commission. Subject to the necessary regulatory approvals, each location could support 2 GW to 4 GW of nuclear generation capacity.
The company has set an ambitious target of developing 30 GW of nuclear power capacity across 14 states by 2047. The initiative is aimed at strengthening India’s long-term energy security through reliable, low-carbon power generation.
NTPC is also exploring technology partnerships with international nuclear companies, including Westinghouse, Holtec International, Rosatom and EDF. Discussions are focused on the potential deployment of pressurised water reactor (PWR) projects at the newly identified locations.
