India: Agratas Energy Storage Solutions, the Tata Group’s battery manufacturing arm, is developing its own Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cell technology, marking a significant step toward India’s battery self-reliance and reducing dependence on imported battery technology.
The company is establishing a pilot LFP cell production line at its upcoming Sanand, Gujarat gigafactory, where engineers from India, South Korea, and China will validate the technology before commercial production. Agratas also plans to manufacture Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) cells for electric vehicle and energy storage applications.
The initiative is expected to strengthen India’s domestic battery manufacturing ecosystem, support indigenous technology development, and accelerate the country’s long-term electric mobility and energy storage ambitions.
