Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL) has secured two standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL), further strengthening its presence in India’s rapidly expanding energy-storage market.
The projects have a combined capacity of 100 MW / 400 MWh and will be developed at Jeerat and Kharagpur in West Bengal, with an estimated project value of around ₹400 crore.
The projects will be executed under a 15-year Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model through JEM Energy, a subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons. The long-term structure will support the deployment and operation of battery storage assets for grid applications.

Jupiter Wagons is also targeting a ₹1,000 crore BESS order book by FY27, highlighting its growing ambitions in the energy-storage infrastructure segment.
The latest wins mark another step in the company’s diversification beyond its traditional engineering and railway-focused businesses and into the fast-growing battery energy storage market.
