NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) has invited bids to procure up to 2,000 MW/12,000 MWh of ISTS-connected Pumped Hydro Energy Storage (PHES) capacity under a service model.

The tender requires a minimum capacity of 500 MW/3,000 MWh at a single location, with a minimum six-hour single-cycle discharge duration. Projects can be located anywhere in India and will support NTPC REL’s round-the-clock renewable energy (RE-RTC) commitments by complementing its wind and solar portfolio.

Selected developers will provide storage services under a 25-year Energy Storage Service Agreement (ESSA) on an annual fixed-charge basis. The projects are required to be completed within 48 months of signing the ESSA. Bids are due by November 3, 2026.

The tender marks another significant step in scaling long-duration energy storage to support India’s growing renewable energy capacity.
