POWERGRID Invites Bids for 187.5 MW/750 MWh Battery Storage Project in Telangana
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has invited bids for a 187.5 MW/750 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project at the Maheswaram 400/220 kV substation in Telangana, as India continues to expand its grid-scale energy storage infrastructure.
The tender, issued under domestic competitive bidding, covers the design, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the battery storage facility, along with its operation and maintenance. The project is designed to provide four hours of storage at its rated power output.
The selected contractor will be required to complete commissioning and takeover within 15 months, followed by 15 years of comprehensive maintenance.
Project Linked to Telangana’s Competitive Bidding Process
The tender is associated with a larger battery storage project being pursued by Telangana Power Generation Corporation Limited (TGGENCO) through a tariff-based competitive bidding process. POWERGRID intends to participate in the project’s selection process, with the package award conditional on POWERGRID being selected successfully and receiving a Letter of Award.
The bidding process follows a single-stage, two-envelope system, comprising techno-commercial and financial bids. Eligible companies incorporated in India can participate, subject to the specified qualification criteria, applicable Make in India requirements and other procurement rules.
