Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has commissioned a 72.5 MW captive solar power project at Kalasar in Bikaner, Rajasthan, developed to supply renewable energy to Tata Steel Limited.
The project will provide green power through TP Vardhman Surya Limited, a subsidiary of TPREL, supporting Tata Steel’s ongoing decarbonisation and sustainability objectives.
The solar facility is expected to generate approximately 166 million units (MUs) of green electricity annually and help offset around 118,856 tonnes of carbon emissions every year. The project uses 171,360 solar modules manufactured by TP Solar Limited, further highlighting the role of integrated domestic solar manufacturing and deployment.
The commissioning marks another significant step in the adoption of captive renewable energy by India’s industrial sector, demonstrating how large-scale solar projects can support energy-intensive businesses in reducing their carbon footprint and accelerating their clean energy transition.
