Tamil Nadu has announced a new rooftop solar subsidy scheme aimed at accelerating residential solar adoption across the state. The scheme will be implemented in convergence with the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and will provide eligible domestic consumers with financial support of up to ₹1 lakh for rooftop solar installations.
The state government has allocated ₹50 crore for implementing the new subsidy scheme. The initiative is expected to help households reduce their electricity bills while encouraging greater adoption of clean and renewable energy.
The announcement was made as part of Tamil Nadu’s Revised Budget 2026-27, which places significant emphasis on strengthening the state’s clean-energy ecosystem. Alongside the rooftop solar incentive, the government has also announced plans to introduce a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Promotion Policy, with the objective of attracting private investment and positioning Tamil Nadu as a major BESS hub.
The state is also planning substantial investments in transmission and distribution infrastructure, including new substations, transformer replacements and Green Energy Corridor projects to support the growing integration of renewable power.
With rooftop solar, battery storage and grid infrastructure receiving simultaneous policy attention, Tamil Nadu is strengthening its roadmap toward a more distributed, resilient and renewable-powered energy system.
