UltraTech Cement to Deploy Over 600 Electric Trucks by December 2026

UltraTech Cement, an Aditya Birla Group company, is set to significantly expand its electric vehicle fleet as part of its green logistics strategy, with plans to deploy more than 600 electric trucks by December 2026. The initiative is aimed at reducing emissions from the company’s logistics operations while supporting its broader Net Zero ambitions. 

The company has signed service contracts with electric prime mover manufacturers and logistics partners, including Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, IPLTech, Energy in Motion and Sany, along with their subsidiaries and other third-party logistics providers, to facilitate the deployment of the electric trucks.

Once fully operational, the fleet of more than 600 electric trucks is expected to transport around 5 million MT of clinker and other key materials annually across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha.

UltraTech estimates that the transition will help reduce more than 1,17,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year while displacing the equivalent of approximately 39 million litres of diesel annually. The initiative is therefore expected to contribute significantly to lowering the carbon intensity of the company’s supply chain. 

K C Jhanwar, Managing Director of UltraTech Cement, said the company is expanding its sustainability efforts beyond manufacturing plants by adopting greener logistics solutions. The company sees the large-scale transition to electric transportation as an important step towards decarbonising its value chain and achieving its Net Zero commitment.

UltraTech has been progressively introducing cleaner transportation solutions across its operations. The company began deploying CNG trucks in 2021 and electric trucks in 2024, and currently operates more than 850 trucks as part of its green logistics operations, including CNG and electric vehicles. 

The planned deployment of over 600 electric trucks marks a major step in the electrification of heavy-duty freight movement in India’s cement sector, while demonstrating the growing potential of electric mobility for long-haul industrial logistics.
